Here's what I'm thinking:
Quite simply, the items (clothing) are organized by type instead of size. It sure makes for a crisp clean look. I can see the the advantages in organizing by size, too, so I'll do that under each sub-category.

Nick and I were just contemplating how to organize the closet in our nursery last night! Furthermore, what has me stumped is what should go in the dresser, and what should go in the closet? Should the closet be for clothes and the dresser for blankets, diaper storage, etc.? We have no idea! Do you guys have a dresser as well? If so, how do you plan to use that in addition to the closet storage? (I should note that our closet is way smaller and way less pretty than yours :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a good question! Our plan is to have the dresser/changing table be for all diapering items. Perhaps over time I'll add pajamas or simple onesies that may get soiled. For now we're doing clothes in the closet, diapers in the changing table.

ReplyDeleteWe actually don't have any hanging storage (Stupid Brits and their hatred of closets!) so everything goes in a dresser. I have everything sorted by type of item in smaller bins within each drawer. In the bottom drawer I have a larger bin for items of clothes that are too big so they can easily be moved into rotation when the time comes.

DeleteI apologize if you've mentioned this already (I looked but didn't see) but where oh where did you find that awesome closet system?? I'm taking the closet doors off in the nursery to accommodate a rocking chair near the window so I need a pretty system. I loooove this one! Also, your inspiration picture is the one I initially showed my hubby saying it was my dream nursery closet. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHey!! Everything looks great. I have to be a debbie downer/negative nancy a little bit though ... you are going to HATE hanging baby clothes after the baby comes out!! We have a huge closet - though not this organized at all!! - that we thought we were going to hang everything - Nope! We use the dresser for everything. You are doing so much laundry folding that the thought of putting things on hangers just makes me a little wonky. Sorry to be negative! It is gorgeous though, and I hope it all works! If I were you I'd invest in a few more of those basket pulls -- you'll be happy you did!!

DeleteIf you have the time, and are willing to hang everything, more power to you! My experience was that for the first 2-3 months we changed onesies or whole outfits multiple times a day because, quite frankly, the poo and spit goes everywhere! I found it helpful to have a basket of onesies or pj's (depending on the season) right on the changing table. It is not always reasonable to go to the closet first to pick out an outfit - sometimes you just need convenience. Maybe keep one or two extras handy and hang the rest?

DeleteI'm still jealous over this closet! Oh and I spy the same Baby Soy pj's (with the elephant) that we have! Love it, but sadly S is too long for it now (and it's 3-6 months!!).
