Seating For Six

We haven't even properly revealed our kitchen yet, but we're already taking on a new project.

What in the world could we be up to?

When we purchased our kitchen table we also bought four chairs. However, we always thought it had the capacity to seat six. Part of our plan was to add a bench but a year and a half later it still hadn't happened. You know, aside from planning a wedding, honeymoon, and taking on a kitchen remodel we just didn't get around to it.  When we did happen upon benches in our searching we ruled out any ones that didn't "match" our existing furniture.

Then, we got immersed with remodeling, refinishing, as well as decor and home improvement blogs. Suddenly the idea of a custom piece seemed like a manageable project. We toyed with building something, but when we found this guy we figured we'd save ourselves a lot of work.

After haggling with a guy at the furniture store we got this bench for $100 cash. The only things left to buy were fabric for reupholstering and wood stain for the legs.

Think we can make it work? I'll let you know how the project goes soon. For now we're enjoying having the new bench as an addition to our table!

Oh, and for a little remodeling fun, I made an animated .gif of our island's evolution.

  1. Oh wow, that's going to look SO good! How exciting!

  2. Amazing! I actually sorta love the bench on its own!

  3. @ Sarah - It looks pretty good on its own in the photos, in real life it's clearly brown versus black furniture. I could go ecelctic but it just looks like we accidentally bought the wrong color. I agree though - it could almost get by!

  4. I love everything in this post! Especially the animated gif
